INTERNSHIP DRAFT DAY! LAMBEAU FIELD

NEW Manufacturing Alliance Announces the award-winning  Internship Draft Day Goes virtual, live from Lambeau Field

The Northeast Wisconsin Manufacturing Alliance (NEWMA) is pleased to announce the 6th annual ‘Internship Draft Day’ is going virtual, live from Lambeau Field, on Tuesday, November 10, 2020, from 2 p.m. – 5 p.m. The event is co-sponsored by the NEW Manufacturing Alliance (NEWMA) and the Northeast Wisconsin Educational Resource Alliance (NEW ERA).  Over 200 college students from throughout Wisconsin and Upper Michigan will have the opportunity to interview for over 200 paid internships and co-ops with NEW Manufacturing Alliance member companies.

This year’s event is being held in a hybrid model with students and companies interviewing virtually through the Career Fair Plus platform.  During the event there will be YouTube Live programming from Lambeau Field with speakers sharing on various topics including taking initiative in college, personal branding and networking, creating career goals, growing your career, maximizing your career with LinkedIn, virtual interview tips, and follow up after the interview.

Ann Franz, executive director of NEWMA stated, “Internship Draft Day is an innovative approach to the college internship job fair.”  Franz added, “Students in addition to having the opportunity to interview for over 200 paid internships and co-ops, will also participate in a contest to be the number one draft pick from their college.”  Prior to the event, students received points for participation in college clubs, relevant work experience, and their overall GPA.  At the event, students will receive additional points for each interview and the Most Valuable Interview (MVI) will receive additional points.  At the end of the day, Mark Murphy, president and CEO of the Green Bay Packers, will announce the number one draft pick based on the points the students at each college earned.  The top overall Draft Pick will receive a $1,500 college scholarship for the upcoming college term from the Alliance.  Franz stated, “How exciting for the students to hear their name called by Mr. Murphy as the number one draft pick for their college!”

Some of the companies recruiting for the event include EMT International, Nercon, PCMC, Parker Hannifin, Pioneer Metal Finishing, Plexus, Samuel Pressure Vessel Group, Waupaca Foundry, Wisconsin Aluminum Foundry.  Opportunities are in a variety of degree fields including engineering, business, supply chain, marketing, electro-mechanical, human resources, and IT.

The event is so unique that it was given the national Talent award by the University Economic Development Association in October 2018.  Due to the pandemic this year, the event will be broadcast on YouTube Live, and the interviews will take place on the virtual platform, Career Fair Plus.
